Gordon Photos (Actually there are lots of families, Fargher's, Gordon's, Mansfield's Kane's etc.) Welcome to the Picture Database. |
All pictures are online and linked to a database for Viewing. I need help identifying the contents of the pictures. For example, listing the names of everyone in the photo. The location and approx. date of when the photo was taken. Some information was included on the back of the photos and as you will see, I have already added this information to the database. You will also notice that in many cases I just included a scan of the back of the picture. After pictures are identified then they can be separated by family name and then separate Links can be made for each to show appropriate subsets of the pictures. Security will just be a group username and password. If you think there should be more security, let me know. Sign the guest to to see what other family members have been here. Guest Book

Description of Terms in the database
LIST PAGES:
By clicking the link above the ~1000 pictures will come up in a 'LIST' mode with
pages of 100 small thumbnail pictures, along with known information about
the picture. You can change the page number at the bottom of the list.
From the LIST page you have 3 choices. Click on VIEW, EDIT or
one of the thumbnails for an enlargement only.
COLLAGE PAGES:
By clicking the link above the ~1000 pictures will come up in a 'COLLAGE' mode with
pages of 100 small thumbnail pictures, Click on VIEW/EDIT to
edit the database descriptions or click on the thumbnail for an enlargement only.
There is a link at the top of the pages to switch to the other Method.
VIEW:
Similar to LIST but with larger photo sizes and only 1 record(picture) at a time
. Also, additional information may be available. e.g. Who has
the original that was scanned. From VIEW you can click EDIT on the top
right or BACK To LIST to return the the LIST mode
EDIT:
Allows you to change the information associated to the pictures. Click
'Update' when you are finished editing. You will be returned to the LIST
page. If you change your mind you can click 'back to List'.
Date: Enter
month, day, and year separately. More info on date below.
Location Picture Taken: City, State.
if you are not sure you can say "maybe City, State"
Description of Picture/Event:
e.g. 1st birthday, anniversary Special Dinner or event
Who is in Photo:
List full names and for groups use terms like clockwise(cw), left to right(L-R),
front row (front).
This will be useful for future searches for a family member or full family.
Funny Story:
This is obvious, but it does not have to be funny.
DATE:
The dates currently entered in the database came from the photo. Some of
the entries are actually the date the picture was developed and it was stamped
on the front edge or back. If the date was missing information I usually
entered a xx for the missing information. For example, if the
picture only only had a '21 on the back I entered it as xx/xx/21. Month,
Day and Year are entered separately for ease in Date Searches.
RESET:
Will reprint the LIST starting at the first record.
SEARCH:
Allows you to search the complete Database for a text string, like a name or
city etc. Results will show in the LIST view with a reduced set of records
matching the text string.
Ideas, Suggestions, Errors, or Additions:
If you have any Ideas for the website email them to the undersigned.
Anciestry:
FYI, I am not really interested in Anceistry. I was just trying to
figure out what to do with all these old photographs sitting around the house
and thought others would really enjoy looking at them and they probably have
pictures to share also. I also did not want to think that they could be
lost in a fire or something. Plus I like to do websites.
MORE PICTURES:
Also, I would be willing to add more pictures to the database from other
family members. Just send me a disk of the scanned photos. If
information about the photos are also available it can be included in columns in
a Word, Text, or Excel file.
